Hello All,
Updates from this week's general meeting of Engineers Without Borders are as follows:
1. We had a guest speaker, Jake Allison, from a program called GIVE, or Growth International Volunteer Excursions. They offer opportunities for students to travel and work on construction projects in the developing world, while integrating some adventure tourism into the program. They are particularly interested in enginering students and the unique expertise they can bring to some of their more challenging projects, one of which is a water sustainability project in Nicaragua. More information can be found on their website:www.givevolunteers.org. Interested students should contact Jake at jake@givevolunteers.org.

2. We decided on a t-shirt design! The finalized design is attached to this email.  Ordering information will come next meeting.  Thank you Kelsey!

3. ASCE mentorship event this Saturday from 12-4pm at Sunset Rec.  They are looking for people from EWB to attend and be a draw for mentees to come out to the event.  If you are free on Saturday, feel free to come by!

4. SWE is having their Evening with Industry event next Tuesday.  I emailed the committee chair, and she told me that going to the event after meeting (i.e. showing up late) wouldn't be a problem, as the actual dinner, and I just wanted to let you all know in case someone was contemplating not going because of meeting.  If you are planning on going and would like to take some information about your project to show to company representatives, email me. Also if you are planning on helping Crystal plan our industry outreach event next quarter, you should consider attending.

5. We had Secret Valentine sign ups last night!  If you sign up, you will be paired with a "secret valentine" to exchange gifts with on our Valentines day meeting! If you could not make it to meeting or did not sign up, email Brandon at blanthier@ucla.edu with your name, year, and project team by 5 pm on Friday if you want to get on the list.

I hope you all have a great rest of the week.  Good luck on midterms!
