BOOTUP update

Thanks for your interest in BOOTUP, an EWB project that conducts technical skills or resources outreach local to Los Angeles.  In brief, we collect donated computers and equipment, refurbish them, and donate them to schools or organizations that need them.  There is an education component as well that consists of computer-building or computer skills workshops, depending on the interest and time of all of you.

For those of you who were not able to make the meeting last week, we discussed the different types of responsibilities that make up this project:

1)  Coordinating equipment donations (max 5-10 hr/month)
2)  Coordinating with the donation/workshop recipient or site contact (5-10 hrs/month, depending on how the site people are)
3)  Coordinating technology refurbishing and quality check (10-15 hours total, depending on your computer fixin' skills ;-))

While I foresee everyone working together on each part, I think it would be really helpful to have a point person/people for each section.  We have volunteers to help manage components 2 and 3 and one person who is possibly interested in co-coordinating donation collection.

There was a general consensus that our biggest constraint is time - so I'd like to propose that, for those of you who are interested, Objective 1 is to identify a site and supply/donate a computer lab.  Objective 2 would be to return to the site 2-3 times during the quarter to conduct workshops for popular programs/skills (ie Office suite or building websites, etc.)

Your level of commitment depends entirely on you - from helping coordinate a task group to helping teach people during skills workshops.

I know the email is already quite long, so if you have any additional questions or would like to jump right in, please contact me.  We can plan to meet again soon.
