"Art saves lives,soothes, explores and empowers people to grow, heal, and make choices”. I have a private practice in Capital Hill. I do group supervision in addition to one to one supervison for the ATR certification. I see children, adolescents and adults. The unconscious becomes visible in the process of making art. Vice President: Mayda Tawny Secretary: Kathryn (Katy) Aversenti Schumaker Kathryn Schumaker, M.A. has a Master’s in Psychology, Art Therapy/Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University in Seattle. Kathryn is a counselor with Pioneer Human Services working with families, foster families, individual adults and children using art therapy and mental health counseling. She was an Intern Art Therapist at Sound Mental Health in the Deaf Services department, using Art Therapy with the Deaf and hard of hearing population. Kathryn first discovered the therapeutic aspects of art during her own journey in welding and clay and saw the parallel process that can occur in making art and living life. Upon closer inspection, the realm of Art Therapy became a passion that seemed to foster communication as well as hope and her journey into graduate school ensued. Kathryn is a volunteer at the Crisis Clinic as well as Childhaven and in her spare time owns and operates a small restaurant in Seattle. She enjoys found object art, oil pastels, and backpacking. As secretary she will record and communicate current EATA news and as part of the EATA board she will increase awareness of Art Therapy to the larger population. Treasurer: Sharon Sanborn Sharon Sanborn, MA, LMHC, CHT has a Master’s degree in Psychology, a Post-Master’s Certificate in ArtTherapy and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and certified Hypnotherapist. I have been intrigued by art and psychology while working in the mental health and education fields for over 20 years. I love seeing people catch the spark of art-making and the creative process and use it for insight and positive change.I currently enjoy being in private practice in Lower Queen Anne, Seattle, using ideas from Narrative, Solution-Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in combination with art and photo therapy as well as “talk” and hypnotherapy. I work with individuals and couples, offer Clinical Supervision and lead Assertiveness, Decision-Making and Art of Gender workshops. Delegate: Bryce Bailey Bryce Bailey, MA received his Master’s in Psychology/Art Therapy/MHC from Antioch University Seattle in September 2006. During his internship at Seattle Counseling Service he initiated Art & Soul creative expression group. Upon graduation, Bryce was hired as an Art Therapist/Mental Health Clinician for Community Psychiatric Clinic-Eastside (Bellevue). He leads 3 weekly art therapy groups and manages a full client load. He continues to present Creative Recovery workshops for CD groups and addiction recovery. His passion for homeless and LGBT youth led him into art therapy. He presented a collaborative research project: Art Making as a Component and Facilitator of Resiliency with Homeless Adolescents to AATA in 2005. His involvement with EATA evolved as Student liaison, attending every AATA conference, and coordinating Judy Weiser’s PhotoTherapy workshop. He enjoys being an Uncle, oil pastels, and visual journaling. Student Liaison: Coquille Talbert Coquille is working towards a Master’s Degree at Antioch University Seattle in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy. Coquille was a volunteer at Community Psychiatric Clinic and now is the Intern Art Therapist at the Clinic, using Art Therapy with chronically mentally ill clients. Coquille finds fulfillment in helping others develop coping skills and find identity through the creative art making process. Coquille is currently interested in exploring the mind body connection in terms of art making and hopes to someday work with children. She enjoys found object artmaking, painting, bikram and walking with friends. As Student Liaison she will act as the link and voice between EATA and Antioch University Seattle. |
