WALLINS UMC HISTORY !!

"FOUNDED IN CHRIST IN 1923"

The Busy Days of the early 1900's brought Methodist preachers, usually by horseback, into the

communities along Wallins Creek. In 1920, the Methodists, first organized themselves in Wallins Creek.

Following a tent revival on the banks of the Cumberland River in 1923, The First Methodist Episcopal Church was officially chartered. Rev. Parker the evangelist, Mrs. Willam (Cuba) Howard was a charter member.

The New Church met each Sunday in the Wallins Theater. In 1923 a lot was purchased in the Creech Coal Company addition in Wallins Creek. In 1925 the company deeded the remainder of the present lot for the sum of one dollar. The trustees, were C.E. Humphrey, R.S. Hoy, and E.B. Collier. A white, wood frame church was built. Isaac Honeycut and his brothers were the carpenters.

In 1969, the church burned. The pews and pulpit Bible were saved, however, and with God's help and the help of many members and friends of the church, the present building was contructed. In 1991, The Wallins United Methodist Church joined the Red Bird Missionary Conference.
