“Hero, Villain, Yeti: Tibet in Comics”
Characters as diverse as Mickey Mouse, the historical Buddha, Tomb Raider Lara Croft, and the Green Lama have something in common: Tibet. For more than sixty years Tibet has figured in comic books from around the world, at times creating and at times perpetuating notions of an otherworldly land roamed by the yeti, inhabited by wise and powerful lamas, or full of dark magic.
Hero, Villain, Yeti features the most complete collection of comics related to Tibet ever assembled, with examples ranging from the 1940s to the present. More than fifty comic books from the Belgium, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, and the United States reflect on the depiction of Tibet, tracing the historical roots of prevailing perceptions and stereotypes and their visual and narrative evolution over time.

HULLABALOO! SIBERIANS 7" RELEASE, Dirty Shames, Psyched +DJs @Grand Victory
Friday, January 27, 2012
9:00pm until 3:00am
Hullabaloo's 2012 starts off with a whizzing bang this coming Friday with our first show of the new year!
Continuing our long tradition of being a not-so-secret shill for Charles's burgeoning Killer Diller Records empire, we have a new reason to celebrate: Brooklyn's own SIBERIANS are releasing their debut 7"
Supporting these cretins are the Dirty Shames, purveyors of the kind of 70's punk rock ramalama rarely heard since the late 70's and The Psyched, a high-powered soulful duo made up of Anthony (Tunnel of Love) on guitar and Paul (DC's late lamented Apes) on drums.
SHA-POW! And if that isn't enough, we're at a brand NEW/old venue called Grand Victory (formerly Bruar Falls) that promises a renovated stage and superior layout, including more bathrooms for you to do your best thinking (or whatever) in.
Charles and Shimmy will lay down the platters that matter all night and you'll only fork over $6 for this cavalcade of clattering claptrap, leaving you plenty of dough for vinyl and alcohol (two of the only three things that matter in the universe).
