What is SDAIE?

Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English

Articles, Glossaries and Information

In the Escondido Union High School District we realize the importance of delivering academic English within the content areas to our English Learners.

SDAIE strategies are good for non-English Learners but are essential for English Learners.  English Learner students have many different challenges that they face daily. Understanding school content through a new language, feelings of culture shock, not fitting in along with the regular challenges of family and adolecents are a daily burden faced by English Learners.

We understand that learning is more than strategies. Language acquisition, home culture, and the students family need to understood and supported by the teacher for the students to be successful.

Pairing Advanced SDAIE Strategies with cultural competency research that supports our English Learner students is our effort in the Escondido Union High School District to meet the needs of the whole English Learner Student.
