Eton Town Council set up the Partnership in 2004 to tackle anti-social behaviour problems in Eton Wick village centre. Thames Valley Police, the Royal Borough, Windsor Housing, Eton College and numerous others joined the Partnership and working together saw the problems gradually disappear. But it did not stop there, it went on to help in many other areas, extra lighting in the Haywards Mead area and car park, more staffing and projects for the Youth Club, a new CCTV camera, closing down a rat run at Bellsfield Court and removing a drinking den near the recreation ground. In all twelve separate initiatives were undertaken. The Partnership then took on its biggest challenge in 2006. A survey, www.etonsurvey.com was taken and studied and it was clear that what both Eton and Eton Wick residents wanted were newer and better playgrounds with stimulating equipment. Following extensive consultation with the schools, play groups, child
minders and the Youth Club the Partnership set about finding the necessary
funds. The government’s S.E England Development Agency matched the Partnerships
efforts pound for pound and £110,000 was raised. The dream was realised and all three Playgrounds are now refurbished benefiting our local children helping with problem solving, improving confidence and providing more social opportunities for them and the rest of us as well! Looking to the future the Partnership is helping Eton Council’s Recreation
Group refurbish the Sports Hall in Eton Wick, it is working to improve signage
from Windsor to Eton, working with Eton Traders
to rejuvenate Eton High Street and with Eton College
to see if opportunities for our residents to use the College’s extensive
facilities are possible. Peter Lawless - Partnership Chairman Issues raised Issues resolved Role in Playgrounds |
