Course Theme: Humane Education

If life has a purpose, last course (2005-2006,) I finally discovered the holistic purpose of my profession as an educator, my responsability to teach Humane Education. After many years of practicing, promoting and living empirically the principles of the Humane Education, I discovered there is a teaching approach to promote those values and the life style I have believed in for a long time, and I am inspired to continue linking and integrating the Humane Education Principles into my content area.

Last course at John A. Ferguson Senior High, I started an experiment, by integrating Humane Education discussion topics, research, reflections, critical thinking among other teaching techniques with my ESOL students, and it resulted in an inspiring end of the course, after receiving verbal and written testimonies from my students of how those topics changed their lifes forever and how they helped them to be better human beings.

I witnessed the prosess, I saw the change, and there hasn't being something more rewarding in my teaching carrer than seing my students improve academically and humanely, ready to aproach life from a new perspective, and knowledgeable of how their choices can affect or improve the world we live in.

Because of the above, I have decided to continue working on this project by integrating the principles of Humane Education into our curriculum.

Teacher's Prayer:

I want to teach my students how to live this life on earth, to face its struggles and its strife and improve their worth. Not just the lesson in a book or how the rivers flow, but how to choose the proper path wherever they may go.

To understand eternal truth and know the right from wrong and gather all the beauty of a flower and a song.

For if I help the world to grow in wisdom and grace then I shall feel that I have won and I have filled my place.

And so I ask your guidance, God that I may do my part for character and confidence and happiness of heart.

Amen.
