Counseling

The counseling center is part of the TANG Center, and is a great resource for students. Let's face it - grad school is hard. Stress from classes, research, pressure from your advisors, orals, and then you add in relationships, friendships, and everything else in life, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming. The counseling center provides free resources for students including one-on-one counseling and support groups. When you call to make an appointment, they will first have you a schedule a phone appointment to make sure you get placed with the right counselor. The phone appointment is fairly short and they just want to find out some general information about why you are coming in. They will probably place you with a counselor that specializes in grad student issues. All of their counselors are professional and confidential. The first 5 visits are completely free, after that if you decide to continue on you will pay a small copay. After 10 visits, if you still want to see someone regularly, you will be referred to see an off-campus counselor. The student health insurance pays for 25 visits per year with an off-campus counselor, with a small copay.
