Ah, the F-word. Before your read further, although it is awkward at times, you really need to have an open conversation with your guiding professor about funding each year to make sure that you are both on the same page. You never know what kinds of funding sources they might know of, and they should know what you are up to as well. There are many ways to get funding including external fellowships, Berkeley campus-level fellowships, ESPM departmental fellowships. Fellowships come in all shapes and sizes, including large amounts that cover tuition, living, and give you research funds, to the basic coverage of eduction costs. Then there are work-based fee remissions with stipends such as GSI and GSR appointments. Restricted Departmental, Divisional, and Graduate Division funding is also available for travel to conferences. You should also keep your eye out for emails sent through the grad student listerv. |
