If you want absolutely beautiful work done, the Cory Hall Machine Shop can do it, including some design. They did something for me that was precise enough to be inconvenient: spec carefully. If you're expecting to use a lot of machines, I believe there's a class in Civil Engineering that earns you the right to use their student machine shop. And, from left field, there are non-academic tool/shop collectives that allow you access for a periodic fee; Ace Monster Toys is in Emeryville, Noisebridge in San Francisco, there may be others. Also look into the commercial CNC/lasercutting/sintering services at Ponoko and so forth. |
