Little Buddy Reading Program
LITTLE BUDDY READING PROGRAM – The East Smithfield Public Library is providing K-3 students the opportunity to participate in the Little Buddy Reading Program. This program has 2 major goals: help elementary students improve their reading skills, and, provide high school students an opportunity to act as role models for emerging readers. A participating buddy will be paired with an appropriate student mentor from Smithfield High School. This mentor will read to the buddy, talk to them about the story, and also listen to them as they read. This interaction between mentor and buddy will hopefully improve the buddy’s language skills. There will also be other enriching activities between mentor and buddy

Little Buddies is a program that matches teams teen volunteers tutors with youngsters in Grades 1-3.The goal is to help elementary school students improve their reading skills teen volunteering and in effect the teems suppoty and become role models for emerging readers. Looking for a way to volunteer? Teen volunteers are matched with children. This program is free.

Have Fun!

While the program is on, teens and their little buddies meet for an hour weekly. Teen tutors are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the little buddies and remain 15 minutes after they leave. This means teens will earn 1.5 community service hours a week. The hours, pending approval by an advisor, can be used towards the Community Service Requirement.

Volunteers can pick up a Volunteer Application or dowload one below.

Depending on the number of children that are signed up a number of High School students will be selected. If you have any questions please contact Michael Cardin at 231-5150 x3 or at mcardinlib@hotmail.com Interested in participating as a teen.
