Antibiotics are widely used in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, however within about ten years, this definition is subject to change due to the immense amount of overuse and misuse. Our goal is to inform patients that excessive use can cause resistance to bacteria and may leads to further mutations in the disease. Our goal is to make our life-threatening medications available to us in the near future, through effective hand washing.

Throughout the years, many people (men, women, and children) have forgotten the importance of hand washing and hygiene. The statistics just continue to grow. This happens not just in one city but throughout the nation. In addition, during the winter season when people become sick, the first thing they do is look for medicine in the cupboard or run to the doctor for some medicine. However, what people do not realize is that antibiotics do not cure the common cold misuse leads to resistant bacteria, so that when people actually need medication, the antibiotics to not work properly.

Our society also needs to understand that if everyone washes their hands frequently, they would contract fewer diseases and would not need so many medications!

I did a presentation at Exeter Township's 5th & 6th grade school, Reiffton Elementary School, on January 4, 2008. My presentation was about 30 minutes long. I talked about how effective hand washing can prevent people from getting sick, thus we can prevent the use of antibiotics for the common cold. I presented to approximately 100 fifth graders using Glo-Germ. This way the students were able to get a first hand glimpse of the "germs" that they are in contact with on a daily basis.

Below are a few pictures from my presentation. However, due to safety reasons I could not put up pictures of the students.

***Also, the students were astonished to hear that only a small percentage of people wash their hands after using the restroom and of that percent, it was mostly women who washed hands more than men.

Earlier that morning I also presented to a class of high school students taking Anatomy & Physiology. They, like the elementary students, were shocked to discover that more practice was needed when washing hands around the wrist, cuticles, and nails after seeing their hands under the black light. This presentation is good for students of any age!

Then on Thursday, January 17, 2008, I also presented to about 50 fourth grade student, the same presentation. The presentation was a Jacksonwald Elementary School in Exeter Township.
