Introduction

I feel that I've always been a writer, because I've always been passionate about, and moved by the process of writing. I never asked how to write, or why I should be writing, and rarely doubted that with my skill (however rudimentary it was when I began my journey), I would write things of increasing complexity and worth. No one told me that my writing was getting better, and fortunately, no one implied that it was getting worse. No one held a magnifying glass up to my stories and poems and urged me to examine my craft with a critical eye. I wrote for myself, and always have.

Within the past four years I have learned to edit my work, a habit which I began after realizing that I was "too embarassed" of many of my compositions, however decent I thought they were while creating them, to show them to other people. I have turned a critical eye on my own writing, because I have worked to achieve a greater appreciation and understanding of my language and of literature. This being said, I can look back on my writing and determine what I knew, what I thought I knew, and what I absolutely did not know about the art of composition. But while I may find errors in any of my essays, rants, songs, stories or poems, or all of them, I also see evidence of a trail of passion left behind in my writing.

My portfolio is a manifestation of what makes me passionate; the writing itself, as well as its subjects, themes, and literary techniques.
