Technology Integration Conference

The Technology Integration Conference is a one-day event designed specifically for teachers in the Edmonds School District.
Join us teachers spend the day:
- Sharing technology-integrated projects with other teachers in the district.
- Learning new technology integration skills within a hands-on format.
- Developing an implementation plan for the 2007-2008 school year.
Date: August 15th, 2008
Time: 7:30am - 4:30pm
Location: ESC
- 8 clock hours are available
- I-728 funds may be used
- Peer Coaches may use 8 hours of either summer coaching grant funds or 2007-2008 district-issued release time
This is a fantastic opportunity for teachers to gather new tech integration & lesson design ideas before the start of the school year!
Note: In the past, teachers have found it to be valuable to attend this conference with another teacher from their school. This is not required, but recommended.
The registration period for this conference
will be open from April 28th through May 16th, 2008.

Workshop Offerings
Audacity: Power in Spoken Language
- A PC or Macintosh platform laptop that has Audacity installed (Audacity is a free download).
- Optional, but Recommended: A computer microphone.
- Learn to use a free audio editor that can be used to produce high quality audio of student or classroom work that can be shared with peers and others. Student performance (e.g. running records) can also be digitally recorded and then stored for assessment. Classroom examples in varied content areas on all levels will be shared. Audacity can be used to publish audio files or Podcast.
Information Literacy
Here is an opportunity to become familiar with methods and materials useful in facilitating student research projects
Topics to be covered include:
- District purchased databases
- - Management strategies
- - Online tools from Google, etc.
- - A review of the Edmonds Research Model
- - Gobs of useful web sites
- - An introduction to del.icio.us community bookmarking system
Class Requirements: All participants will need to bring all of the following items with them to class in order to attend:
- A PC or Macintosh platform laptop that has a wireless Internet connection.
Introductory SWIFT: Create Your Classroom Website Easily
- This is an introductory workshop for teachers who have had limited experience using the SWIFT website creation tool.
- A PC or Macintosh platform laptop that has a wireless Internet connection.
- An email from Saundra Smidt containing your personal SWIFT account login information.
Have you ever wanted to create a classroom website but were afraid to learn a complicated piece of software? Edmonds now has an easy-to-use web page creation tool that is available for teachers to use! There is no special software required! Come to one of these sessions with your account and laptop & learn how to use SWIFT as a powerful communication and learning tool!

Enhancing the Core Content Areas using PhotoStory (PC only)
- Make digital photos come to life with this fun and exciting download from Microsoft. Students can take their research papers, poems, stories, and even class photos and make them into powerful and interesting presentations. Music and/or the student’s own voice can also be incorporated into this presentation software.
Prerequisites: Download PhotoStory from the Microsoft Website - Click Here to Download
Equipment Requirements:
- PC laptop (PhotoStory does not work on Macintosh computers) and PhotoStory downloaded beforehand.
- Optional but Recommended: A computer microphone.

- Learn how to add new elements to their SWIFT website.
- Share their SWIFT websites with others in the group.
- Get new SWIFT website ideas from others.
- Have time to work on updating their SWIFT website.
- Get help when needed during worktime.

- This is an intermediate-level workshop for teachers who have had previous experience using the SWIFT website creation tool.
Participants attending this workshop will:
- IMPORTANT: Participants must have previously developed a SWIFT website or have taken the AM SWIFT class at this conference before they may attend this workshop.
Podcasting in the Classroom
- Podcasting is a great way to communicate with parents and is a vehicle for students to publish their work for authentic audiences! In this workshop you will learn how to create and post your own Podcasts.
- A PC or Macintosh platform laptop that has Audacity installed (Audacity is a free download).
- Optional, but recommended: A computer microphone

Web 2.0. is the new and revolutionary change that is sweeping the Web and allowing users to interact with data in ways we never dreamed possible 10 years ago. Web 2.0 is loaded with tools to motivate students to dig deeper into their learning and contribute what they know on the internet. During this session we will look at: Wikis, RSS feeds, Podcasts, Weblogs, Social Bookmarking with Delicious, Online Photo Galleries, Google Applications and more.
