Maverick Jazz Band

The Maverick Jazz Ensemble is comprised of students from the Maverick Concert Band.  All instruments are welcome in Maverick Jazz.  This jazz ensemble focuses on the basics of playing jazz music, learning the jazz language, and on basic jazz theory and improvisation.  We learn about different styles of jazz music including swing, rock, blues, and funk.  Songs and Improvisation focuses around basic twelve bar blues progressions and the blues scale. 

Mustang Jazz Band

The Mustang Jazz Band is comprised of students from the Mustang Concert Band.  All instruments are welcome in Mustang Jazz.  This jazz ensemble builds on the basics learned in Maverick Jazz.  We study a wider variety of jazz styles.  We focus on ensemble balance, intonation, and style.  We play music that requires greater independence from section to section.  We look to expand the student’s knowledge of jazz theory and improvisation.
