Learning to plan effectively for my students has been a major part of my educational journey. This section provides some examples of the planning that I did for the grade three/four split class I was interning in. The description of the unit or lesson plans are provided below. The plans can be located at the bottom of the page under "attachments". Math The new Math Makes Sense Program was a challenge to implement in the classroom. While initially rather daunting I quickly became familiar with the program and learned to enjoy the incredible resources that come with it. In the attachment section at the bottom of this page a lesson plan entitled "Introduction to Word Problems" can be located. This lesson plan incorporates lesson objectives from grade three and four. Science Science is perhaps one of my favourite subject areas to teach it. The natural inquiry students posses makes science an exciting subject to engage students in. The variety of science based resources available also provide the opportunity to teach scientific concepts throughout the subject areas. Language Arts Quality Language Arts instruction is imperative if the literacy goals of the province are to be actualized. Students need to be excited about reading and writing and engage in text that is of high quality and relevant to thier own lives. During my three week block in my internship I planned a unit on courage and heroism to coincide with Rememberance Day. In the attachment section at the bottom of this page a unit plan entitled "Courage and Heroes Unit Outline" can be located. This outline incorporated lesson objectives from grade three and four and focused on specific reading and writing strategies as outlined in the "First Steps" program. Physical Education All too often the area of Physical Education become neglected. As levels of childhood obesity and inactivity are on the rise I feel that it is incredibly important to plan and implement quality Physical Education programs.
