D-Day

 

D-Day was June 6, 1944.  D-Day was the day that 160,000 Ally troops landed on the 50 mile coastline of Normandy, France. 5,000 ships and 13,000 airplanes helped the troops. On D-Day, 9,000 troops were lost, but 100,000 continued the march. There were 13,000 men who had to do an air drop at night, landing behind enemy lines. There were five beaches that were part of D-Day landings. There was Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches.

Eisenhower, the commander, was confident of winning.  He said to the troops, " we will accept nothing less than victory" (D-Day).
