[04-08-2011] My wife gave birth to our second daughter Thevini Himansa Withana at IU Health hospital. 

[25-07-2011] Successfully defended my PhD in Computer Science titled "User Inspired Management of Scientific Jobs in Grids and Clouds" from Indiana University, USA under the guidance of Professor Beth Plale,  Dr. Dennis Gannon, Professor Geoffrey Fox and Professor David Leake. 

[02-06-2011] Presented our lab work in the talk "Towards Enabling Mid-Scale Geo-Science Experiments Through Microsoft Trident and Windows Azure" in CloudFutures 2011 workshop. The white paper of this talk can be downloaded from here. 

[06-05-2011] Participated in May commencement and was hooded by my advisor Dr. Beth Plale. My PhD defense is scheduled on 25th July, 2011. 

[24-09-2010] My "Usage Patterns to Provision for Scientific Experimentation in Clouds" paper got accepted to 2nd IEEE International Conference on Cloud Computing and Science 2010.

[25-08-2010] Successfully defended by PhD proposal defense. 

[21-08-2010] Back in Bloomington, IN after a successful internship in Google with MapReduce team. 

[11-05-2010] In Mountain View, CA working in Google as a software engineering intern in MapReduce team. 

[08-04-2010] Participated in NCTTA national Table tennis championship held in Waukesha, WI. 

[16-08-2009] Became the president of Indiana University Table Tennis Club.  

[10-08-2009] Back to Bloomington, IN after another great internship in Microsoft Research with Dr. Dennis Gannon in Cloud Computing Futures team. On my way back, drove 3600 miles through Grand Canyon and Arches National Park.  

[04-08-2009] Celebrating my daughter's  3rd birthday on my way to Grand Canyon.

[09-05-2009] Back in Redmond, WA for the second internship in Microsoft Research with Dr. Dennis Gannon in Cloud Computing Futures team. This time drove from Bloomington, IN 2700 miles to come here. 

[Spring-2009] Lecturing and helping for B534 Distributed Systems course in IU, with Prof Beth Plale.

[12-12-2008] Done with my PhD pre-qualification requirements and moved in to PhD candidacy. Also,  completed the MSc (with 4.0/4.0 GPA).

[04-09-2008] Got through my written qualifiers. Yey !! Now need to get ready for my oral qualifiers. 

[09-08-2008] Back from Seattle to Bloomington, after a great internship with MSR. This time I didn't lose any of the bags. 

[04-08-2008] Dihini's second birthday.

[01-08-2008] Registered for classes. This time I will be taking B581 : Advanced Computer Graphics and B669 : Data and Search Informatics. With this I will be done with my CS course requirements.
