E-Portfolio Surveys

REFLECT Initiative Instruments

In 2005, the REFLECT Initiative was a research project that followed cohorts of secondary school students using the TaskStream e-portfolio system. As the Research Project Director, Dr. Helen Barrett adapted questionnaires to use with the students and teachers. In 2005, the project used the TAC and CAQ instruments developed by Gerald Knezek and Rhonda Christiansen at the University of North Texas. These surveys were developed in the early days of PT3, and are a little dated, but most of it still works. http://www.iittl.unt.edu/
  • The Teachers' Attitudes Toward Computers (TAC)
  • The Computer Attitude Questionnaire (CAQ),
  • Concerns-based Adoption Model-Levels of Use (CBAM-LoU)
  • Technology Proficiency Self Assessment (TPSA)
  • Stages of Adoption of Technology (SA)
I also adapted Dr. Anne Davies' Teacher Checklist on Student Involvement in Assessment.

In 2006, a new survey was developed for both teachers and students. A paper was presented at a roundtable session at AERA 2006 to provided feedback on the questions (the paper is attached at the bottom of this page). A major source of questions: Bartlett, A., & Sherry, A. (University of Hawaii Manoa) http://www.citejournal.org/articles/v4i2currentpractice1.pdf

The actual instrument used by students in Spring 2006 is embedded as a GoogleDocs form below. The survey used with teachers is linked here: http://electronicportfolios.org/research/PortfoliosAssessmentReflec.html

In the Spring of 2007, the project used the instruments developed by Elizabeth Hartnell-Young for a research project in the U.K. and included on a separate page.

Dr. Barrett also conducted Focus Groups with Students in ten schools. Here are the Focus Group Questions that were developed.
