MathematicsStudents will create a spreadsheet to calculate the volume of a box with variable dimensions. This will be done by importing an image, formatting cells to contain column headings and inserting formulae to calculate the dimensions and volume of the box. Students will also learn how to create a graph that they can copy and paste into a word processing document. The skills learned by completing the example project can be easily applied to other activities that involve using a spreadsheet to investigate a mathematical model.
ScienceStudents will work individually to create a multimedia report about an animal of their choice. This lesson plan suggests mammals as the topic group, but any grouping (reptiles, insects, birds, etc.) that fit the theme of study could be used. The instructor may want to prepare a list of animals for students to choose from, or leave the choice entirely up to the student.
