Peace with Justice Grants

Funding for Peace with Justice Grants is generated by the local churches and Annual Conferences from the Peace with Justice offering taken on Peace with Justice Sunday which “witnesses to God’s demands for a faithful, just, disarmed, and secure world.” The grants are awarded annually and, in 2008, totaled $51,000.  Funding is generated through the denomination's Peace with Justice Special Sunday offering, one of six Special Sundays in The United Methodist Church. In 2009, the Peace with Justice offering will be observed on June 7. Fifty percent of the offering is retained in the Annual Conferences (see EPA Conference below) and the remainder is forwarded to the General Church (see General Board of Church and Society Grant Application).

1. EPA Conference - The annual Peace with Justice offering is evenly divided between the Peace with Justice fund administered by the general church and the EPA Church and Society work team. The funds that remain in our annual conference are dispersed in two ways.

            A. Program Grants: Programs or projects fitting the guidelines established by the Church and Society Work Team can apply for grants of up to $2,000 per calendar year. The next deadlines for grant submissions are March 31 and October 31.  Please note that Volunteer in Mission trips cannot be considered. Applications and guidelines are available by following the link Church/Organization Application Guidelines (see word version attached below) For more information contact Rev. Carolene Brubaker, at 610-692-5190.

            B. EPA Conference - Individual Scholarships: Individual scholarships are available for those attending peace with justice training events. Scholarship funds are available for up to 50% of the cost of the event with a maximum grant of $500. Applications are handled on a rolling basis.
