Chris Kennaway Scholarship
The intent of this award is to recognize a young official who is working to better the sport of softball in their community, and the community at large through their talents.
This scholarship is available to an umpire who is enrolled at a recognized post-secondary institution.
“We are very touched that the members of the Eastern Ontario Umpire Association have been so thoughtful to celebrate Christopher’s life and passion for softball by establishing the Chris Kennaway Scholarship.
It is wonderful that you appreciate how dedicated Christopher was to the sport. Together Christopher and his brother James were committed to better the sport of softball in their community. This took a tremendous amount of time, energy and dedication. It was very impressive for us to watch our sons umpire together and support each other. Engaging others and modeling their passion for softball, they emphasized safety and fun! They were a great team and their love for softball developed a strong, united bond between them. We are so proud of them.
Softball was very important to Christopher. He had limitations in his life, due to his heart condition. We are so glad that he had the opportunity to be involved. Christopher did an excellent job as Umpire Coordinator for ROMSA for many years, organizing the schedule for the umpires on very short notice. He was a wonderful mentor to the new umpires, a role he also enjoyed
Thank you so much for keeping Christopher’s memory alive..”
