Eyes of Hawaii - General Meeting 25 May 2009
1. Administrative A. Introduction of visitors and prospective members (Jim Young) Many visitors and prospective new members B. Treasurer's Report, Membership count (May Uyehara), Verbal Report C. E-mail status (Rita Kaku) No Report D. Special Visitors- Leon Richards, KCC Chancellor; Louise Pagotto, Vice Chancellor; and Louise Yamamoto. An invitation for EOH members to participate in KCC culinary completion preparation/dining experience and fund raising project was extended. Many thanks to members that made contributions during the meeting and those that will be participating in the dining experience. 2. Old Business A. Special Olympics (Diane Kon), Scheduled 29-31 May, many EOH members have signed up to assist E. EOH Discussion Group (Luther Chong) 2 pending requests for membership, no current activity F. Club Picnic Date (Connie Leong, Ed Yee). Tentative date 29 August, Ho’omaluhia State Park, Kaneohe. Current thoughts include “club sponsored food”, to make the event more enjoyable for the participants. An E-mail notification with the request for a head count will be sent to the membership in the coming week. G. Mentor Program, update: Ed Yee First talk starts today with Jim Young’s “How to make an unscripted film using a single movie/video camera”. Follow on topics are listed in the tentative agenda for next FY.
H. Exhibit: Hawaii State Library (HSL) - (Exhibit Committee) 1. Status – 29 photos in the exhibit “hanging photos” in the exhibit, (one no-show). We have had a lot of interest and compliments from viewers. 2. 2 exhibit areas are being utilized, entry lobby and the 1st floor reading room. We initially had 21 photos in the lobby and 8 on the reading room. However, the 4 photos on the Reading Room Ewa wall have been relocated to the lobby (due to a HSL space scheduling conflict). 3. The exhibit case is being used for club information and candid photos. The exhibit case portion with club information can be viewed thru 27 May. 4. The exhibit will be disassembled on 4 June, 5-5:30pm. Photos must be picked-up by 6pm, 4 June. I. Tentative agenda for next FY – Jul 2009 to Jun 2010 (Program committee) Link to Proposed 2009/2010 Agenda 1. Guest speakers 2. Mentor talk(s) 3. Club photoshoots and trips. The proposed agenda was explained by Ed Yee and remains tentative, until next FY, Jul 09. Suggestions/comments related to the schedule, guest speakers, photo shoots and mentor topics are encouraged. Thanks to the planning committee, Diane Kon and Ed Yee for developing the FY 2010 agenda.
3. New Business – A motion “for the club to contribute $100 to the KCC Culinary Completion fund raiser” was made, seconded and approved.
4. Announcements/Reminders – A. HSL Exhibit teardown, Thursday, 4 June, 5:30P – 6:00P, Photos must be picked-up by 6pm. B. Next meeting - Monday, 22 June, 2009, KCC, Ohia 118 Election of officers for the new fiscal year (July 2009 - June 2010) C. Annual Dues will be collected.
5. Member’s Presentations: A. China Trip, presentations by May Uyehara and Lynn Reedell B. Short film made from video shot on the Guizhou trip (Jim Young) Very good 20 minute video that included “live” and added sound, music and other descriptions. C. !st EOH “Mentor” talk (Jim Young): How to make an unscripted film using a single movie/video camera Jim described the essentials of the video production that included the video equipment (with the logic for the selection), software, with short demos of user selectable changes/options and techniques for assembly, transitions (between clips and still shots) plus “live” and edited sound integration.
