Moodle is an open-source, web-based course management system
that is officially used by Lewis & Clark College to organize
courses. The system is very flexible and can be designed as use the
Moodle environment as a means to communicate to students, to link to
the course syllabus and other downloadable documents, to administer
quizzes and homework assignments, and many other activities. This help
page is intended to get students up and running in using Moodle
effectively in the Environmental Studies Program.
Registering your Moodle Account at LCIf you haven't yet registered for Moodle and you're a member of the LC community, just enter your LC email login and password into Moodle when prompted to login and you will be automatically registered! If you aren't a member of the LC community you'll need to email the Moodle administrator for assistance.Enrolling in a Moodle Course
Once you have registered for
Moodle, you will want to enroll in the course(s) you are taking.
"Enroll" doesn't mean that you are formally registered; you do that via
WebAdvisor. What it means is that you can access the contents of a
course page, receive emails of posted announcements on that page, and
so forth. Sometimes your instructor automatically enrolls you, but if
not, simply (a) login, then (b) navigate to that course from the Moodle
main page and it will ask you if you want to enroll in that course. It
may also ask you for an enrollment key: ask your instructor if so. Once
you've done that, you're enrolled! Simple as that.
Edit Your ProfileYour user profile stores
all kinds of information about you and your preferences in using the Moodle site. The user profile has lots
of stuff you probably don't need to change, but for the few things
we do recommend that you configure, here are a few quick video tutorials. After you have logged in, click on your name
at upper right or the bottom of the page, or click Edit User Profile then click the Edit Profile tab.
Describe YourselfEnter
a description of yourself for other course members to learn a bit about
you. This is also where you can set preferences like the types of
emails you would like to receive, if any, from your Moodle course
pages.
An important step is to upload your photo so that it appears alongside your forum postings and other places where
you show up: this humanizes our online interactions tremendously. Just
click Browse... next to New Picture and navigate to your photo,
then upload it. Moodle will accept many digital formats, and convert
your picture to a square image, so make sure that what you want to
include is in the middle of your image! Don't forget that you need to click on Update Profile whenever you make a change.Return to the Help Wiki Main Page Return to the ENVS Main Page |
