ENVISION MAINE'S MISSION
Envision Maine is working to provide Maine leaders and citizens with non-partisan, independent research and analysis on major challenges and opportunities facing Maine. Our goals is to share vital information and insights, new ways of seeing old problems, and strategic recommendations on a variety of critical issues that either hold this state back or offer a springboard to a brighter future.

We hope to periodically issue major reports and more focused studies concerning particular trends, opportunities, businesses, sectors or regions.

Maine's Opportunities and Challenges

Maine has faced many challenges. None greater, perhaps, than today's. A weak economy perpetuating stubborn poverty. High taxes and an inefficient government. But we still have enormous promise and potential. We have an extraordinary environment, safe and friendly communities and quality schools. Above all, Maine has a deep well of talent, resourcefulness and gritty determination. Over the next decade, Maine has a chance to become a magnet for people who are looking for a terrific place to raise families and businesses. A place where the economy is growing again and Maine people are optimistic and forward-looking. With a brand that speaks not only to quality and honesty and hard work, but also to innovation, creativity, new ideas and new products. Maine can become the place that young people don't want to leave for long, and people across the country point to and say, 'that's where I want to raise my family, help nurture a community and grow my business'.

Whether we can achieve that vision for our future depends on how well we confront our challenges, whether we can make the tough decisions that must be made, and do it with the kind of teamwork, skill and persistence that will be essential.

Our goal, at Envision Maine, is to help inform and energize Maine people to tackle the road ahead, and to achieve that vision of a brighter future.
