was founded in 1999 in Santiago de Chile with the purpose of spreading 20th century music in the chilean milieu. Since then, it has made many recordings and public presentations with a special interest in stablishing links between chilean music and contemporary universal music. For this reason Ensamble Contemporaneo, besides performing works of outstanding Chilean composers, has devoted itself to play great works from universal repertoire of the 20th century. In 2001, joining the international celebration of the 50th anniversary of the death of the great austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg, Ensamble Contemporaneo presented a first phonographic record of his Pierrot Lunaire op. 21, in Chile. This record also established a particular link between Chilean music and the music of Arnold Schoenberg. This link comes basically through the Dutch composer Free Focke, a pupil of Anton Webern from 1941 to 1944 in Vienna. Living in Chile from 1947 to 1957, Focke has an important number of disciples such as Schidlowsky, Lefever and Aguilar, also presented in this CD.

Ensamble Contemporaneo received the 2003 Altazor Prize for Classical Music.

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

fué fundado el año 1999 con el objetivo de difundir la música del siglo XX, particularmente en función de vincular la música chilena con la música contemporánea universal. Por esta razón el Ensamble Contemporáneo además de estrenar obras de destacados compositores chilenos, se ha dedicado a ejecutar grandes obras del repertorio universal del siglo XX. El año 2001, sumandose a la celebración internacional del 50 aniversario de la muerte del gran compositor austríaco Arnold Schoenberg, el Ensamble Contemporáneo realizó una primera edición discográfica de su obra Pierrot Lunaire en Chile. Este disco rescata un muy particular vinculo entre la música chilena y la música de Arnold Schoenberg. Este vinculo se produce fundamentalmente por la prolongada estadía en Santiago de Chile del compositor holandés Free Focke, alumno mde Anton Webern entre 1941 y 1944 y que entre los años 1947 y 1957 tiene un importante número de discipulos chilenos, entre ellos Schidlowsky, Lefever y Aguilar.

El Ensamble Contemporáneo obtiene el Premio Altazor en categoría Música Docta 2003.
