A kind and generous man watched a butterfly when it was struggling to come out of it's cocoon. He watched as the butterfly pushed and pushed until it appeared it had given up. So, the man decided to help the butterfly. He gently took a pair of scissors and cut the cocoon open so the butterfly could get out. As the butterfly emerged, it's wings were frail and withered. He kept waiting for the butterfly to enlarge and spread it's wings and fly away, but nothing happened. In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of it's life crawling around with a withered body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.

What the man in all his kindness did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening was God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into the wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes as people, we try to help others by doing it all for them, and sometimes that is the worst thing to do. As humans we do this all the time. We want to protect and "fix" things for those we love. Sometimes the best way to help someone is to simply listen, understand what they are going through, and share your own experiences with them.

The best medicine in life is love, the hard part is having the courage to share it with those around you. Taking the risk to show and share your love with others is probably the scariest thing a person can do. If you are really doing this, you have to be honest with who you are to someone else. I think this is why God put a lot of emphasis on having a loving relationship with others. Humans are just too selfish to do this on their own. He knew when to hug, when to heal, and when to sit back and let us come out of our cocoons. I am sure he hurts watching us struggle as we do watching the ones we love struggle, but this observation is true love. Before, during, and after the struggle; HE IS THERE!!!!! Walking through pain with those you love is difficult, but it is one of the best ways to show and feel love and loved by others.
