What Is Scrip?

Scrip is a term that means "subsititute money". When you purchase scrip, you're purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing and other essentials, and with evry purchase, you earn money for your school.

How scrip generates revenue for our school

The great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches and school and other non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, depaetment stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchase with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. The PTO buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families for full face value. The discount - from 2% to 15% or more- is the PTO's revenue.

Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising"

Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don't have to sell anything. Organization members produce revenue by making regular hosehold purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

Ordering

Place your order by 10:00 a.m. on Mondays at the elementary school. Either send forms with your child or drop them off at the school. Scrip cards will be sent home by Friday with your child. If you would rather pick up your cards at the school, please let Heather, Lisa or Jane know.
