KITE RUNNER... note from eb...

posted Feb 2, 2012 4:26 AM by kk eberhard
Kite Runner is a story about two boys, one who grows up with all the materialistic things and one without, one who has a father's love and acceptance and one who does not. It is a story of two boys who grow up together, friends, until society tells them they shouldn't be. It is a story about loyalty, betrayal, and forgiveness. It is a story about making choices... choices about who you are and how the choices you make foster the man you become. Taken out of context, Chapter 7 is questionable. In context, while still brutally disturbing, it serves a purpose. Hosseini is successful in writing about something that happens in a brutal world. If he does it well, his readers will be uncomfortable and want to turn away. If this is how you react, Hosseini has done his job. He has made you feel what both boys felt, the shame, the horror, the pain. He also gets his readers to an emotional presences where we can ask ourselves what would we do in each boy's place?
