Birthdate September 27, 1965
I was born one day before my Aunt Linda's 15th birthday; she was not happy her big sister, my mother, could not have waited a few more hours... none the less, she claimed me as her present and has treated me as a treasure ever since.
Hometown Brighton, Michigan
Our parents moved my brother and me into their newly built tri-level on Woodland Lake in the summer of 1969. My parents were both 25 years young; my brother was six and I was four. At the time, Brighton was a rural, cottage lake town. Upon hearing where I grew up, Eb remarked, "Oh yeah, that was my family's bathroom stop when traveling between Detroit and Lansing."
Childhood
I was the odd, artistic, writer/reader raised on acreage with dune buggies, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. I inherited my first Yamaha 60 when I was eight years old. Although I only have one sibling, we grew up among all our uncles, aunts and cousins, which made our family quite large.
Michigan State University, Bachelor of Arts, English, Psychology
After graduating high school in June 1983, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Lipscomb University. My maternal grandparents lived in Greenbrier, as well as other extended family, and I desperately wanted to get out from under my parents' wing... By December, I was ready to head home to Michigan. I was enrolled at MSU before my freshmen year came to an end.
Marygrove College, Masters in Education
Enrolled in graduate classes at Michigan State University and then Oakland University, I always expected I would get my masters degree in English. Time progressed, and idealism gave way to reality; I found a program that allowed me to move ahead in my education, teach, and still have time to be with my children and partner... someday, I will revisit my original dream...
Career
I was hired by East China School District in August 1987, after graduating with honors from MSU in June, and have been teaching English at Saint Clair High School a quarter of a century. NO, contrary to small town legend, I was never an exotic dancer. I am too creeped out by nasty perverted men and not that coordinated.
Family Life
Eb and I met while teaching at SCHS; he arrived the year before me. We have been friends ever since. We have four children: Erin, Erich, Ean, and Eamon. We currently share our home with two dogs, two cats, two birds, and two fish.
