- To read all of the paper topics I have designed for you and choose a couple based on your interests.
- To design your own topics if you are not interested in the ones I am offering for your consideration.
- To start thinking early on about what you want to write about this semester and explain why.
- To recognize that writing a quality essay demands personal investment more than anything else.

Read all of the paper topics in the pool and choose TWO that you are interested in writing about.
- Type a report explaining WHY you are interested in each topic. DO NOT tell me what you would write about.
Instead, tell me WHY you want to write on each topic. What will you gain from writing on this topic? How will you benefit from writing
such an essay? Be specific in your reasons and type half a page for each topic you choose. Your finished document should be at least one page long, typed, double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman. In each paragraph, clearly indicate which topic you have chosen to pursue.
- If you cannot find two topics from the pool that you like, you will have to design your own, have them approved by me, and THEN write your paragraphs explaining your interest and how you will benefit from writing about them. If you decide to design your own topics, please leave time to get them approved.
- Any topic that you design must follow the format of the topics I have included in the pool. If you are unsure how to make your topic fit into this format, please make an office appointment as soon as possible.
