Eng and Friends Dance Company
Artistic Director Eng A. Matthews – (Philadelphia, PA)
Eng received his dance training at the Chestnut Street Dance Academy in Philadelphia and a scholarship under the guidance of Donald Lunsford from the Philadelphia School of Dance Arts (1999-2002). He then joined PHILADANCO’s 2nd company, Danco2, in 2003 and danced one year with them. In 2002, he performed with some of hip-hop’s dance legends as a special guest of Rennie Harris (Pure Movement), at the "Legends of Hip Hop" series. He has worked with and performed works by Zane Booker, Stephen Welsh and Paul Turner. Eng, along with his identical twin brother, have also danced for a variety of local R&B and rap artists as back ground dancers. Mr. Matthews joined New LeJa Dance Company under the artistic direction of Jaye Allison in 2004 and danced two seasons with them. He is also a former dancer with Underground Dance Works, directed by Charles Tyson. Eng has taught basic beginner classes and praise dance to inner city young adults and pre-school children at two local churches in Philadelphia.

Eng A. Matthews "To live, play, act and be...is to Dance. Movement is how we express ourselves. Without dance, I wouldn't be able to survive."
Eisa Jackson, Asst. Director
Eng's vision was to unite with other classically gifted and spirited dancers to create distinguished and cutting edge choreography. Inspired by social and political issues, and yet deeply personal, his works seeks to ponder the human condition and to explore the full-range of human emotions. Eng is joined by wonderful and great dance talents who are highly skilled, disciplined dancers with extensive dance training backgrounds in ballet, modern and jazz.
Eisa Jackson and Eng Matthews
Shhhh, a secret that not many people know; but Eng's favorite movie/musical is The Wiz ....
Always growing and trying new things. Class is what helps dancers stay strong and focused.
Warm thank you to Lisa & Stephen Welsh at 1st Position Dance Studio in Havertown, PA; especially PHILADANCO - Joan Myers Brown, Donald Lundsford, Pat Thomas, Kim Bears, Shawn-LaMere Williams also Jaye Allison, Susan Hess and countless others for making and molding me into the dancer I am today. You believed in me. Thank you for all the corrections and the times you screamed at me... LOL ______________________________ "We'll give it a 10" -Carolyn Huckabay, Philadelphia CityPaper
