New happenings in ART!

11.14.11
Welcome Quarter 2 students!  This quarter in art you will learn about the elements and principles of art and design and learn how to create various types of art.  This week we will focus on learning the basic elements of art as well as learning the rules, procedures, and expectations of art class.  You will be getting a sketchbook in which we will do some of our work from.  We will be creating all different types of projects, read and write about art, and also practice our drawing skills.  I hope you have a great time in art!

10.17.11
Last week we were working with clay and made a candle holder and jar.  Now we have to wait at least a week for our clay to dry before Ms. Avery fires it in the kiln.  Then we will get to glaze our ceramic pieces.  This week we will be helping to make decorations for the upcoming Literary Chills event at Evergreen.  We will be drawing spooky pictures and also learning about the Mexican holiday the Days of the Dead.  We will be making a Day of the Dead portrait.

10.7.11
It has been another fun week in art!  We learned how to draw in 1 point and 2 point perspective.  We also learned about the color wheel and color theory.  Next week we will work with clay and begin our 3D unit!

9.30.11
Midterms grades are coming up next week!  Be sure to turn in all work that we have completed so far!  We had a great week in art learning about form, value, shape, and texture.  We created positive and negative space cut-outs using geometric and organic shapes.  We also have been practicing using all of the elements of art that we have learned so far to create self-portraits!

9.23.11
We have been working hard in art!  Last week we completed our poster about different careers in art.  We had to research about what skills, training, education, and attitudes these careers required.  This week we learned about Surrealism, lines, and shapes.  One of the projects we completed was to draw food in the style of Surrealism.  Some of us drew hot dogs as dogs and broccoli as trees!  Today we were working on our shape cut-out using geometric and organic shapes.  It's been a fun and productive week in art!

Welcome to ART!!  I am excited to get a new gorup of students this quarter!  We will be working with all types of art materials and learn about various types and styles of arts and artists!  This week we had an opportunity to get to know each other in class and make a collage about ourselves.
