(vermicomposting initiative)
Worms, worms, and more worms IN our classroom!!!
Just before March Break I went to a worm composting workshop and became very excited at the prospect of feeding worms our classroom's compost. So I obtained a pound of Red Wigglers (worms), a worm bin, some soil and lime stone, and a bunch of shredded paper ... oh, and an ice cream container filled with orange peels, moldy bread, apple cores, burnt cookies, carrot ends etc.
After reading and writing all about worms and worm composting in Language Arts my students and I created an ideal habitat for the worms during Science class. Hopefully our worms will feel comfy in their new home and thrive off of all our Elementary School's compost. We will gather each classes' compost on a daily basis.
