I'll be talking about the life and times of Alan Turing tomorrow night at 7p.m. in the Exmouth Arms for this month's Cosy Science event. I'll be talking about the events that shaped Turing's life and that led to his untimely death, as well as the legacy that he left behind.
It'll be lively and engaging for non-scientists and scientists alike - and there will be beer! What better way to spend a summer's evening! |

I've been busy with a few new clients, including HPIO UK who are currently running my series on the CCDP Act that's going through parliament this session, and putting together some research-led pieces for an unnamed client that have gone gratifyingly viral.
One of my favourite regulars commissioned this piece about Google's history and future, and I had a blast checking out the original "web directories" from the early 1990s. I'm so glad to have brought a bit of retro joy to a wider audience! |

I've been reviewing quite a few shows of late. On the Londoner.so guide you can see reviews for Shivered, The Duchess of Malfi, and Pack of Lies. I also wrote a preview piece about Pack of LIes for the Network Theatre Newsletter, which can be seen here. |

If you're a Londoner and haven't joined Londoner.so yet, come and join us! It's a listings and lifestyle guide (like the Magazine that Shall Not Be Named) but with the added benefit of being social from the ground up.
I'm particularly happy with my review for Bingo at the Young Vic and my hard hitting exposé of the latest addiction that is taking over the lives of London's young women: knitting and crochet. I think the most enjoyable piece to write has to be the first in an upcoming series about the Grand Guignol that is the London Mayoral Election. It's a loving homage (ripoff) inspired by Private Eye's "Robber Baron" series about Silvio Berlusconi. If Private Eye have a problem with it, may I refer them to the reply given in the case of Arkell v. Pressdram. (That's enough plagiarism. Ed) |

I'm a regular contributor to London's newest social guide, www.Londoner.so. One of the things I put together is the fortnightly round up of the best free arts and culture events in the capital. If you want to know the best ways of spending your time without spending your money, follow the "Diary" heading on the website.
If you have a free event coming up that you'd like to be considered for the listing, contact me. |

I'm working on my first full length book (If you don't count my PhD thesis - perhaps it's fairer to say "the first book that I hope people might pay me to read") and I'm very excited. In fact I'm so excited that I can't wait until publication to start sharing some of what I'm doing! The working title is "That's F*c#ing Amazing: the history and science of swearing." I'm going to be looking at why swearing kills pain; whether apes swear; why calling someone a lazy c-nt can be the quickest way to make friends; why some people who've had strokes lose all their language apart from swearing whereas others lose swearing but nothing else. It really is amazing stuff. The language on the blog (and in the book) is as profane as the subject matter so you may find it NSFW or indeed NSF anywhere! But if you want to understand the joy of four letter words, follow my blog, here. |
