Philosophy of Education:

I believe that a quality education begins with creative and passionate teachers who are committed to social justice in education.  An effective learning experience requires a dynamic classroom environment that respects the individual needs of each student, promotes development of a student’s self-efficacy, and expects nothing short of excellence in academics.  With appropriate instructional design and delivery, differentiated instruction, student-centered learning activities, motivational intervention strategies, effective classroom management, and an emphasis on the relevance of academic content to the world beyond the classroom, all students will actively participate in the learning process.

In addition to academic knowledge, a well-integrated student has skills they can apply outside of the classroom.  Teachers must promote growth in leadership, help students to understand and enrich their faith development, and support learning and utilization of improved technology as an educational tool.

One of the beauties and challenges of education at the present time is the increasingly diverse student population.  Creating learning experiences that challenge the students, while still supporting language and learning needs is critical.  Teachers must continuously participate in professional development opportunities including reading professional journals and books that inform them of the latest educational research and reform.  Having information about a student’s cultural, linguistic, health, and personal background is important to understand their learning needs.  By establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students and their families, we foster open communication and support.

My personal goals for growth and development as a professional educator are:

  • Leadership Competence: The ability to promote the philosophy of the school program; provide team-building leadership; promote multi-cultural awareness, gender sensitivity, and racial and ethnic appreciation; make informed, objective judgments; create an effective student success plan; and engage in continuing professional development.
  • Administrative Competence: The aptitude to maintain a safe, respectful, positive, and effective learning environment; evaluate student performance; manage procedures and records; and ensure that student learning expectations are met.

I have an uncompromising view that all students can learn, given a positive learning atmosphere that welcomes exploration and increases student self-efficacy.  With experience in optimizing the learning atmosphere, staff cooperation, encouraging academic excellence, and a firm commitment to social justice in education, each and every child will achieve learning goals.  Students will learn the skills, strategies, and knowledge that will help them to make their dreams a reality.
