At 7 pm on the evening of the run participants meet at the Temple to prepare hot meals, large urns of coffee and hot vegetable soup and sandwiches and to pack and sort clothes and personal items.       COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENTS!

Our first event on Monday evening, October 18th at AFYA Foundation in Yonkers   is the preparation, sorting and shipment of medical supplies to Haiti. Afya Foundation obtains and ships vital supplies necessary to support medical and surgical initiatives worldwide, with a primary focus on Haiti and Africa.  Supplies are gathered from hospitals, surgical centers and corporations. The goal is to serve as a donation-based clearinghouse for the international health community. Volunteering at Afya provides exceptional opportunities for our community. We will assist with sorting the supplies. Afya has established a medical supply system tailored to the needs of its donation institutions. The Afya warehouse in Yonkers is the location for temporary supply storage before shipment to developing countries. This fulfills the Jewish obligation to put Tzedakah into action by helping others. Just as Judaism teaches us to live each day with gratitude for the good in our lives, so it also asks us to continually add goodness to the lives of others.

Our second event is Noogiefest on Monday, October 25th at Gilda’s Club in White Plains where we will host an arts and crafts room. We will work with children and we will create crowns and wands. Gilda's Club is a welcoming community of free support for everyone living with cancer. This event will be for our 7-12th grade students with adult supervision. We will meet in White Plains at the Gilda’s clubhouse. We will decorate the room to make it comfortable before participants arrive. Please contact me at  HYPERLINK "mailto:adubro4@msn.com" adubro4@msn.com  or call me at 637-8801 if you would like to participate.

MIDNIGHT RUN is the third event is on November 6, 2010 . We caravan to New York City to help the homeless. We will purchase food, clothing, personal care items, blankets, shoes, and paper supplies .Our youth group will be participating in these activities, from preparation to the actual program.

Used clothing drive  we will need 100 blankets, socks, underwear, hats and gloves, coats, shoes, shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, sweat pants and knapsacks. At 7 pm on the evening of the run participants meet at the Temple to prepare hot meals, large urns of coffee and hot vegetable soup and sandwiches and to pack and sort clothes and personal items.  After a 9:30 pm. orientation 7- 8 vehicles are loaded with the food and clothing. Then we are off to New York City in a caravan carrying our youth group students and volunteer congregation drivers. The vehicles make seven, thirty minute stops in New York City. At each stop the students and congregants   work from their cars giving out the supplies and engaging in conversation with the homeless. The dialogue is an essential element in the run, since the homeless are very isolated. Please contact Jane at 637-8801 to sign up  or e-mail  HYPERLINK "mailto:adubro4@msn.com" adubro4@msn.com.
