102 miles since July 14
Thursday - August 24
9 miles
Not sure why but today I was just dead. I just wasn't feeling it. Did a slow 9 miles, barley worked up a sweat.
On a side note all this work I'm doing off the water is really paying off on the water. I kiteboarded for 5 hours straight last weekend - no problem on my legs. Injuries are not occuring. I have become a much better swimmer and can hold my breath a lot longer underwater (important for wave riding and getting stranded) from all the swimming I've been doing.
Monday - August 21
4 miles
Just a quicky around the neighborhood to loosen up the legs after a long weekend of kiteboarding.
Wednesday - August 16
15 miles
Awesome ride. Got the MP3 player so that was kicking in and I was just cruising. Pushing hard, went far, good day.
Wednesday - August9
10 miles
Don't really remember the specifics of this ride. Just getting the #s in here.
Sunday - August 6
9 miles
My legs were exausted from kiteboarding the day before. It was kinda nice to not have to work very hard and get that 'good' feeling in your legs where it feels like you're working really hard. Legs felt a bit better on the 2nd half of the run - got to push it for the last 2 or 3 miles. I realized I don't use my gears almost at all, which is not good. The path I ride on is pretty much flat so I have very little reason to use them. I need to start finding some hilly roads.
Wednesday - August 2
15 miles
Long ride in the blistering heat. I went out to Herndon and back. Pushed it pretty hard. Unfourtnatly I left my helmet by my car at the end and someone swiped before I got back later to find it.
Wednesday - July 126
10 miles
Solid ride, went the other way on the trail which was a pain in the ass as I was heading into Arlington. Many road crossings and other people.
Tuesday - July 18
9 miles
A relaxing bike ride with Loren. I did a couple hard miles in the middle but mostly I was just coasting.
Sunday - July 16
12 miles
Did the same trail but went a bit further. On my way back I was passed by a guy
which kinda woke me up and I realized I was going pretty slow. I ended up
catching up to him and following for 2 or 3 miles. It made it a lot more
interesting almost riding with someone else even though we didn't talk or
anything. I ended up passing him with 2 or so miles to go, so I had to push it
in so I didn't feel like a fool and get passed back by him.
I went into the bike shop after the ride and got my back wheel realigned and got my brakes fixed - cause they didn't really work before.
Friday - July 14
9 miles
Went for my first ride on the road today. Bought an old Schwin off of CraigsList for $100. The bike is in great shape but I'll be looking to make a few upgrades, mostly for saftey. I figure I'll start with this guy and see how I like the sport before I go investing tons of loot into it.
Road bikes are fast! I actually thought I was heading slightly downhill the entire way out since I was crusing so fast. Found out on the way back that the path was pretty much level. Ended up doing 4.5 miles out and 4.5 back, wasn't too bad, was able to push it a bit in the last few miles to really get a workout in.
This was the first time since I've run (about 2 years ago now) that I felt that push inside of you to go faster being countered by exaustion where it becomes a mental game as much as a physical one - and I liked it! I'm pretty excited about this, hopefully it can fill that void inside of me that running once occupied.
