About Me:

I come to Drexel with a diverse background in mathematics and education. I began my career with a Ph.D. in mathematics (topology to be specific) and taught mathematics at the university level for a decade. But my interest has always been in teaching, so I slowly spent my years at the university level moving towards mathematics education. I finally took the plunge to public school teaching in 2001, when I moved to Philadelphia and spent five years teaching middle school in the School District of Philadelphia. I have now returned to the university level to teach, research, and continue to learn about mathematics education. My interests, and my heart, lie in equity and urban education. To this end I spend much of my time working with the Math Forum to research and design professional development opportunities for teachers in the area of mathematics and mathematical thinking. Since arriving here, I have also taken a keen interest in using technology to create opportunities for teachers, who are geographically distant, to work together on mathematics and the teaching of mathematics.

On a more personal note, I enjoy working with Teach for America, living in the city of Philadelphia, my first city living experience, and traveling abroad, generally following my daughter who spends much of her time living and learning abroad.
