SHOP SAFETY

-Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available through every reputable company selling chemicals.  They will tell you what safety requirements are needed for any given material.

-Do Not Eat The Art.  Lable all dye utensils and materials clearly, and never -ever- use them around food.

-Dress for Success. Wear clothes you don't mind getting spotty.  Long sleeves, rubber gloves, goggles, and a respirator or dust mask as needed.

-Treat the Chemicals with Respect.  You don't want them anywhere you aren't aware of. Never smell chemicals.

-Keep it Clean.  Put down a damp towel when opening powdered dyes and chemicals. Do not sweep powders-mop  them up as most powdered chemicals are relatively harmless when wet and diluted.  Wash all things that come in contact with the chemicals.

-Add water last.  Always add water to acid, and water to powders.  It is much less likely to make a mess and hurt you.

-Always open and close dyes in a timely manner.  Do not leave them open for extended periods of time. Not only is it unhealthy, but it can contaminate your dye as well as leave dye spots on projects.

-If it seems like a bad idea-it probably is.  Keep a straight head when working with dyes and you will be able to play with them longer.
