Bridal Showers

Shower #1 (May 16, 2009)

My mother and sisters threw me a fabulous shower at my godmother's home in North Reading.  It was mostly family, since none of my bridesmaids live in the Boston area, although one of my bridesmaids, Karin, flew from Chicago to be there, and my parents and sisters came from Michigan.  I also had family from D.C., Maryland, and Maine who were all able to come, so it was wonderful to see everyone together.

I wore an adorable Suzi Chin/Maggy London dress, that's perfect for a spring/summer party, especially with a pair of cute heels!  I think the dress is new, and I can't find a photo of it anywhere, but it is similar very similar to this Maggy London dress, but sold turquoise rather than print.

For shoes, I ordered these.  They are from Old Navy of all places, and they were on sale for $20!  The color is a really great contrast with the color of the dress, very summery.

My mother had the shower catered by Whole Foods in Cambridge, and I have fantastically generous uncles who helped cover the expense of the party.  The food was delicious, wine was a-plenty, and everyone had a fantastic time!

Look how yummy the desserts were!  Jon's mother took care of our cake, and ordered it from our very favorite bakery, Party Favors.  It was delicious, and my sister (who lives in Michigan), has already declared that as soon as they arrive back in Boston for the wedding in August, she is going immediately to Brookline to buy another cake.  Adorably, they coordinated all the desserts and decor to our wedding colors.  Everything was brown, ivory, and green, with splashes of orange thrown in.

I was blown away by how many presents there were!  They seemed like they just kept coming and coming!  We got an entire set of Calphalon pots and pans, a Calphalon knife set, an amazing down comforter, our coveted Dyson vacuum cleaner, tons of small appliances and kitchen ware, and tons of our towels.

The girls were very busy making ribbon bouquets and hats.

Shower #2 (June 26, 2009)

My future mother-in-law hosted a small dinner-party style shower at my future-in-laws' house in Swampscott.  I feel totally lucky to have received two showers!  That shower was attended by a group of my FMIL's friends, and it was so nice to meet them and spend time with them before the wedding.  The weather miraculously cleared up for the day, and it didn't rain, so we were able to have the shower out on the porch, by the light of lanterns and candles.  It was very cozy and fun.

Since it's an evening shower, I wanted a dress that was more cocktail-style, but not too formal.  Here's what I ended up with:

Donna Morgan, strapless silk chiffon dress:

My future mother-in-law, Nancee, showered me with rose petals for "love, happiness, and lots of babies." Haha.

My FMIL's friends got us an amazing group gift of a ton of our bedding stuff.  We can't WAIT to buy our new bed once we move into our new place and put everything together.  Clearly, I'm very excited by the Hotel Collection:

And by the way, check out the mountain of Crate & Barrel boxes next to me!  My mother sent all of our dishes and silverware, along with several serving platters to my future-in-laws house as a shower gift.  We were sad she couldn't be there.  Jon's mother also gifted us with a Crate & Barrel desk we've been eyeing for a long time.  Can't wait to put it to use in our new home office!
