Gurlfrendz started at a time when I (Tenial) was experiencing a rough period in my marriage, and with my financial stability. It was a way to be able to give back what my Gurlfrendz gave to me.

In the most troubling times of my marriage I turned to my Gurlfrendz for help. I expected, and perhaps would have liked them to convince me to "leave him", but they never did. My Gurlfrendz never told me what I should do, or how stupid I was. They never judged me, nor did they give me the "if it were me" speech . Insted, they wanted to know what they could do to help me. My Gurlfrendz listened to me, and although I am sure they had an opinion (we all do), they kept it to themselves, listened to my pain, and made every effort to uplift me. In the end, they made me understand what "real" friends are, and how important it is not to let any man or woman steal my joy, to always try to stay in my happy place, and know my worth.

I needed money, to get out of my situation, but neither of them were any better off financially than I was. We were all married or in relationship. It was the men in our lives who had the money, and they were not sharing! My Gurlfrendz and I lived check to check on our median income, complaining every week about what we didn't have. Squeezing money for the newest peep toe pump and purse to match. We tossed around ideas of second jobs only to come to the realization that a second job was impossible with our families and current work schedules. Finally, we decided that we needed to start our own businesses. Two of us chose home based travel agencies, and the other chose a cleaning business. We all agreed that if one of us "took off" we would help the other along so that we could all spend our new money together.

Through it all it was my Gurlfrendz who pulled me through. It was my gurlfrendz who called to see if I was O.K. It was my Gurlfrendz who said "gurl let's start our own business and make our own money." For that I am very grateful. I am blessed to have such wonderful Gurlfrendz. My Gurlfrendz have my best interest at heart. I realize that not everyone has such wonderful friends, and even if they do; who couldn't use a few more gurlfrends to listen, to give advice, or help you "get on your feet"?
