My name is Elissa Yonkers. I'm a recent graduate from Bowling Green State University, with a Bachelors of Science of Journalism and a focus on Public Relations, and a very strong minor in German.
I have several PR internship experiences, including one with the U.S. Department of State at the Consulate General in Frankfurt, as well as at Lapides PUBLICITY Giragosian, and Al-Jamiat Magazine.
I spent the 2005-2006 year studying abroad in Salzburg, Austria. While at the University of Salzburg, I took a full course load of 300 and 400 level classes in German. I also spent 10 weeks at the U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt, Germany. There I used my German to help develop programs for outreach, for translation of newspaper articles, and being a translator for a visiting U.S. journalist.
From August 2009 until 2010 I served as an Americorps VISTA at Essex CHIPS as Community Outreach Coordinator, in Essex Junction, VT.
From October 2010 to May 2011, I was an intern with Watching America, a web-based orginization which aims to give Americans a look into how the world percieves them. As a Translation Intern, I translated 2 articles a week from German language media into English. Please take a moment to see examples of my work, and feel free to contact me.
