Hi folks,

We are alive and working really hard to publish a new web site that will make us all very proud. I finished my studies late in May (graduation is in September, the most awaited graduation of all time!) and I´m fully committed to Brain Dead Studios for the next couple of months.

I´ll like to clarify some things too: http://brain-dead-studios.blogspot.com/ is not our new homepage. It´s just a TioGus blog that I myself don't recommend. It will not be updated anymore, the revival of that blog was just a nostalgic moment for him that lasted the time he took to write that last post. If you´re curious, just get in right know and read the entire content and don´t worry to look there for the next 100 years or so.

By the way, I locked TioGus in a small room with a couple of books about some rather obscure technologies we'll be using soon (his work ethic has improved). I'll give him a couple of minutes over the week to share his insight with you.

Cheers,

Elioncho

In an effort to revisit stuff from the past TioGus managed to wipe off the dust from Brain Dead's past website. As you all know, Brain Dead Studios began as a Rubik Cube applet and then moved on to other projects such as the Helldorado Mod (which is still going through development hell as to this day). During that time Elioncho and TioGus started a blog to keep all "fans" up to date with all development news and that kinda stuff. By the middle of 2006 Elioncho just didn't have time for Brain Dead (add to that the fact that the 2006 World Cup was about to begin), so we decided to shut down Brain Dead Studios once and for all. That also signaled the end of the blog - the last post was dated on 2006. But now, TioGus decided to reopen the blog and keep it up to date with all current news. You can check out the blog here:

More partying than coding?

Word has spread over the Brain Dead Studios offices that TioGus has been severely affected by Elioncho's rise to stardom. It is rumored that the 24 year old developer has been afflicted by a rare case of jealousy towards his friend and long time co-partner.

Since starting development on Oncho's Engine, due by the end of May 2008, TioGus's reputation has suffered due to poor focus and lack or discipline over the last couple of days, fueled by questions and speculations regarding his work ethic, which was called into question when he was caught partying at a local Washington DC nightclub last weekend (see image above). His co-partner Elioncho confronted him and called for him to "change his behavior" and "focus on coding the engine". On May 06, 2008, TioGus was unable to attend an online Oncho's Engine status meeting due to effects from a lengthy and belated celebration of his birthday the night before, which rose even more speculations by the internal staff at Brain Dead Studios. Today, when asked by Elioncho about the expected completion date of Oncho's Engine's first alpha-stage prototype, TioGus harshly replied "when its done!" (citation needed)

TioGus depressed!

Rumors have spread that TioGus has been going through severe depression over the last couple of days - possibly caused by his current lack of form in Halo 3. In his own words: "Those n00bs are getting better, while I am either getting dumber or older - my reflexes are failing me". Tiogus is known as VISOR103 in the Halo 3 Multiplayer world. A promising young champ, he boasted a 1.38 Kill/Death ratio one month ago but now, with his ratio decreasing day by day (it is 1.34 as of this writing) he claims that "I'm a mere reflection of my former self" and that "I went from being a young champ to an old chump". A recent incident intensified his depression situation. On Sunday night TioGus played a multiplayer match with his friends against some other opponents online. The map of choice was FOUNDRY. After getting completely annihilated, TioGus checked his stats at the end of the game: his spread was -9, which meant 3 kills, 12 deaths. He stood up from the couch in a dejected fashion and went to get something from the fridge - most likely a 4 day old pizza slice. While this was happening, one of his friends came down from his room in order to monitor the Halo 3 games and after looking at the stats, the "-9" spread caught his attention. He laughed in astonishment "Wow, who was that, was it VISOR103?". One of his other friends (shehryarr) muttered "That was not VISOR103, that was his shadow". Unbeknownst to shehryarr, TioGus had been eavesdropping the conversation from the moment it began , and, after hearing this disheartening comment, ran up the stairs and seconds later a door was shut violently. He came out of the room 2 hours later with puffy eyes to announce his immediate retirement from Halo 3.

In honor of VISOR103 and his accomplishments, this weekend a farewell/exhibition match will take place. This event will encompass a medley of Halo 3 games, including the famous INFECTION on GUARDIAN, one of TioGus's favorites. Everybody who wants to play is welcome. In the meantime, TioGus would like to thank the following Halo 3 players for their support over the last couple of months:

  • shehryarr
  • avaes
  • culturedGorilla
  • RUB114
  • hchu401
  • XpAnDeR101

Terrible Week in Updates

TioGus has spent countless hours trying to improve his skill level in Halo, while Elioncho is struggling to finish his overrated thesis.

Expect some news later this week.

To clarify your latest concerns on the future of HellDorado, here´s the official statement:

HellDorado was an ambitious project when it started...hell too ambitious. At one point there were even talks on taking the script to the BIG SCREEN. But the truth right now is that no one is working on it, its current status is DELAYED and we are not sure when will it be released. There´s simply no budget to work on games of this magnitude, especially after falling in bankruptcy. Additionally, we miss Condorito´s great input after he got himself fired.

In recent days, people´s speculation raised over the project future due to a message posted by Condorito on the guest book where he said to be back. This message was just a proof of his delusional mind. He´s not coming back and as we said first, HellDorado hiatus is just a money issue.

I must say though, that we did advanced on the script and some scenery work back in 2005, when we were just a start-up company. HellDorado IS a real project and was not a vehicle to draw attention from the media, as some people believe so. I´ll post some never before seen artwork in the next couple of days.

Let me take some time to inform you about what is currently going on here at Brain Dead Studios. Elioncho and myself have been hard at work on our next minigames. At this point, unfortunately, we can't reveal them, since we are in the early stages of development - focusing more on graphics and network technology than in actual gameplay mechanics. When we have a stable codebase for graphics, we'll focus more on game programming. When this is achieved, we'll be happy to share with you tids and bits about our upcoming games.

As for company news, yesterday I got destroyed by my Federal Taxes - I didn't get a tax refund and ended up paying for taxes (a hefty sum by the way). This money was formerly going to be invested on Brain Dead Studios Center for Technology Research, so if you put everything together - without capital for investment, Brain Dead is now bankrupt. But don't worry, we'll get out of this one. If you know certain facts about Brain Dead's past, we've always managed to overcome many crises (company closing down due to the World Cup 2006, etc - Elioncho was responsible for this by the way).

So, stay put and keep checking our site for more updates. Oh yea, the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack will be released today and will feature the new maps: Blackout, Ghost Town and Avalanche. So, if you are a Halo fanboy(or girl), this purchase is a must. Add me to your xbox friendslist - my gamertag is "VISOR103", take care.

A few days have passed since the opening of our new site and it has been a complete success. We want to thank all of you for your continuous input and support. The new website accompanied by the release of Dong vs. Dong marks the beginning of a new era for Brain Dead Studios. Expect new and exciting projects in the near (and we truly mean near) future.

Today, we also want to inaugurate our new section "Fan Projects", a place where everyone is invited to post and share their projects with the world. So be sure to check it out.

We have updated the system requirements for "Dong vs Dong". Make sure you meet the requirements depending on your operating system in order to run the game. If you follow the directions properly you shouldn't run into any more issues. If you continue having problems don't hesitate to contact me and I'll look into it. Thanks again

We've received numerous complaints from people who haven't been able to run "Dong vs Dong" on their computers. Elioncho was having this issue too, and at this point I'm not sure if either the game was packaged incorrectly or if the people who tried running the game don't meet the system requirements. But don't worry, I'm currently looking into this problem and will let you know when I have found a solution. Thanks a lot for your patience

Today we want to talk about David Singer, the man who dared not to sell the domain we thrived to own: www.buttonsmashers.com. We made our own investigations and found out that he has got the domain under his name for the last seven years. Seven years and all you get when you browse it is a "Page Not Found".

We wrote him an e-mail:
____

Dear David,

I am interested in the domain "www.buttonsmashers.com" listed under your name. Are you selling it? If so, which is the price you're asking for. Thanks,

Elioncho
____

And all that we got back was a miserable:
____

Thanks for the inquiry, but the domain is not for sale.

David

____

So we wrote him back:

____

Dear David,

I know you've been unconvinced, and I'm prepared to compensate you. How much will it be 1 million US dollars? Very well, make it 2 million US dollars.

Thanks,

Elioncho
____

Apparently there are a handful of things that might be going on in his life:

1) He has been working secretely on his website for 7 years, thinking about releasing it very soon (HIGHLY unlikely).

2) He doesnt know that HTML exists, hence he's been developing his own hypertext language (for example SHTML) for the past 7 years, together with contacting Microsoft and the Mozilla people so that their browsers can support it.

3) Hes trying to learn HTML but keeps falling asleep on his book every hour -> this seems to have been happening since 2001.

Kind Regards,

TioGus and Elioncho

I'm pleased to announce that Brain Dead Studios will be publishing some past work of ours that has never been published under the Brain Dead Studios banner. The sole purpose of this is to do a compilation of past work that might be worthy of publishing. Our philosophy here is simple: Make the kind of games we wanna play and have fun working on them. Our projects are not limited to games for a specific audience or for a target platform - we've worked on things like: Maps and levels for a particular game engine, OpenGL, Direct3D, XNA apps and games, Web applications, etc. Anything that might cross our minds and which might sound challenging and fun to work on at the time, we go ahead and do it. Keep checking the BIOS page for any new posted projects

It's been a long time since I've made a post with any relevant significance and now I find myself eager to share with you the undergoing developments inside Brain Dead Studios. Buffered Games, a subsidiary of Brain Dead Studios, has been organized to lead our current web-based projects. We've been learning many things along the way (After dwelling with mods, unfinished and never released DOOM Wads, etc) but theres something we know is certain: Networked web-based games are the future, and Buffered Games will be fully committed towards raising the bar in this fast-growing industry. Our projects at this point are 100% confidential but we will be revealing some of our work in small chunks (for all fans out there - if any). As Elioncho announced earlier today, we've been working on our network technology and optimizing it as good as we can (or as good as our skills allow us to). This technology will be the de facto standard for network code to be used on all of our future projects, and the basic premise is to improve it day by day as we learn new techniques or advances in this discipline. I'll keep you posted with other exciting things going on here at Brain Dead Studios

Condorito Fired From The Helldorado Team

After a board meeting with the primary stock-holders of the organization, Elioncho and TioGus finally made the strong decision to put an end to Condorito's career in the Helldorado team. Supposedly, according to outside sources, the staff complained about Condorito's lack of dedication and commitment to the team.

In the meanwhile, Elioncho will resume with the garbage disposal activities previously done by Condorito........at least until they find a decent replacement.

Half Life 2: JAILBREAK -> Project Closed

It has been more than a month since this modification started, and the development team has come a far way in learning new skills and putting their potential to academic use by developing this free online voluntary project known as JAILBREAK. Back then, we were an eager team anxious to create a modification. However, as time has moved on, many of our developers have progressed into a more demanding routine with college and jobs. Since a majority of our development team is now busy with such activities, the JAILBREAK project is being closed down so that we may concentrate on that which is more important for prospective students of the games development industry such as ourselves. It has been a wonderful ride, and we have learnt many things along the way, but it is time for us to focus our energies elsewhere. It has been an absolute pleasure working on this project, and the entire development team shares the same sentiment. I would like to thank the hundreds of people who have supported this project and stuck with us from start till end. Although probably anonymously, I am sure we will meet again in the games industry somewhere and somehow. Sincere regards,

"TioGus" - Gustavo Restrepo
