EDUC 644
Technology Mediated Teaching and Learning
Fall 2007
The course aims to develop a deep understanding and technical skill on selected types of technologies and help students gain empirical understanding of their affordances and limitations in education. The discussion of the role of technology in education will be organized around four basic content areas: reading and writing, math and science, arts and music, and teaching English as a foreign language. Students will develop technological “fluency” in a) hypertext, b) audio-visualization, and c) mobile/hand held technologies. Through a range of inquiry projects, research analysis and hands-on experience, students will explore the distinctive features of each type of technology and conduct research on clearly defining what type of learning and teaching goals can best be supported with the use of technology.
EDUC 644 is held in GSE’s computer room and it includes regular lab sessions. Students will also have the opportunity to experience a range of technologies used in the design of this course (webpages for presentation, blogs for discussion of readings, software enabling peer-based evaluation of writing, videoconferencing and electronic portfolios)
