Water

Water is the life blood of rural living

Upon deciding to build or purchase a rural home the first item that must be addressed is the water supply because without a good water supply all other considerations are meaningless.  For new construction I feel that putting in a well and testing should be done even prior to installation of electricity since if there is not an adequate water supply there is no sense in spending more money on the site.

I often hear people say that there is a spring on the property.  I can tell you from experience that a spring or spring house is not an adequate water supply for human consumption.  I was sick for almost a year from giardiasis before being diagnosed with this ailment.  Caused by water drawn from a spring house.  A spring house invariably gets invaded by animals, reptiles and insects. All of these commonly carry salmonella.  Also this kind of water supply is often polluted with surface water.  Any surface water like streams, ponds, and lakes also pose significant risk unless the water is boiled prior to consumption.  So as you can see your only viable option for a rural home is a drilled well with an adequate contamination seal.

What am I going to do when our aging municipal water supply fails.  I have asked this question many times and I have finally decided on a new well.  This is not a small investment for me.  I worked hard on this decision but my present water I dare not drink and I have been bathing at friends houses and the water only runs 16 hrs a day.

Well I contacted Gilboa Drilling.  I have to drill a well.

This is really high tech stuff.

It only took about three hours to drill 40'.  A casing was inserted and I have well which produces water faster than the 5gpm pump can remove it.
