Student Collaboration with Blogging and Microblogs

Edublogs is a blogging service based on Wordpress, that offers free blogs, allows for multiple contributors and even creation of student blogs under a teacher blog. Edublogs offers many themes and is very customizeable. Edublogs recently began inserting in-line advertisements in blogs that are not Edublogs Supporters ($25). School Districts can purchase an Edublogs Campus account to allow for creater control and customization.
Blogger is Google's blogging tool. Users
can easily create a blogger blog once they have an established Google
account. There is some concern over the ability to click Next Blog in
the Blogger navigation bar, but that can be edited out (check here). Microblogging ToolsTwitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service, that allows its users to send and read other users' updates, which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. This type of service could be useful in a classroom setting, but registering students for the service could be questionable, as they can then 'follow' any number of other users. However, this is a really great tool for building a personal learning network and keeping current with trends.
Edmodo is a private micro-blogging platform built for use by teachers and students for sharing ideas, files, events and assignments.
