 Green Fest Success!

Some SAFE members had a great time volunteering their efforts at TIYLO's Green Fest 2011 on April 30 at Cerow Recreational Park.  Participating members included Noelle Flynnt, Azure Arnot, Haley Hauck, Victoria Anchor, Jamie Hood, Danielle Savage, and Morgan Knapp.  SAFE members encouraged Green Fest visitors to take the Green Pledge, committing to starting 3 "green" practices during the week and continuing to "Go Green", by signing the GO GREEN PLEDGE banner.  The banner will be posted in the HS for community members to sign.  SAFE members also ran a craft table for children, based on the story by Eric Carle, The Very Lonely Firefly.  Kids made firefly votives out of recycled glass jars and tissue paper.  Members also sold Smens and Smencils, which are writing utensils made out of recycled newspaper, and modeled recycled clothing in the Upcycled Fashion Show.  Corrie Fitzsimmons and Victoria Anchor both entered the Recycled Art Show, entering a cow made out of milk jugs and gloves, and a clock made out of various recycled materials.  Victoria earned first place for her clock, as judged by Green Fest attendees.  Congratulations, Victoria!  SAFE members are looking forward to making their own upcycled fashions next year, participating in the Recycled Art Show, and once again volunteering their day to helping TIYLO on Green Fest 2012!
