English Language Summer Camps are a tradition carried out each summer by the American embassy to promote English language teaching and learning around the world.  The camps are an opportunity for seasoned teachers and new teachers to come together to share ideas and methods and to develop themselves professionally.  In addition, it is an opportunity for local children to study English intensively with expert teachers and native speakers while participating in a cross-cultural dialogue.

During the week of June 23, students will attend the camp at the Buca Education Faculty of Dokuz Eylül University, Monday through Friday, from 9-2.  In the morning students attend intensive classes focusing on auditory comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing, taught by top academics from Turkey and the United States.  After lunch, students participate in games and activities meant to promote their English language skills.  At the end of the 5-day camp, parents will be invited to a graduation ceremony where each student who has attended will receive a certificate of completion.

Books, lunch, and materials will be provided for all students by the American embassy.  Tuition is free for all students selected to participate in the camp.

Teachers for the camp include:

·        Melanie Brooks, English Language Fellow, Dokuz Eylul University

·        Graduates of Dokuz Eylul School of Education

·        Visiting Turkish scholars/teachers

·        Teachers from the ACCESS program

We already have 45 students confirmed; however, we have room for 5 more. If you are interested in having your child participate, please fill out the form by clicking the link at the top of this page.
